You can't join a kingdom as a mercenary if you have a fief, you have to join at vassal rank and you will keep your fief (s) Thank you for your response. Saved my precious Quyaz. Beware tho, if you leave after being a vassal the kingdom will see the fief as its own so you'll have to defect with it or give it up.

Especially the T4 Crossbowmen. There's 4 perks, 2 to reduce hiring costs and 2 to reduce wages (and they are all in between levels 150 and 225, with the 225 one being in trade). They have 50% higher base upgrade costs, and with the upgrade reduction cost perk they're still more expensive to upgrade than regular troops.
However, to stop being a mercenary in Bannerlord, you need to speak directly to the leader of the faction. You have to find the exact location of the leader of the faction, approach them, and select the “I wish to be released from my oath to you” option. Since you were just a mercenary, there should be no repercussions for leaving the
1st you join to the faction as a mercenary group. While you are fought against the enemy nations and prove your loyalty for your faction then you can go ask to pledge an oath for faction leader. Key difference is you are not rewarded fiefs as a mercenary. i am new to the game but this is my current understanding of it based of of my experiance
